Cabinet Maker’s Kitchen Remodel
Kitchen – Before the transformation
“Our 18 year old kitchen was in need of some major remodeling so we turned to Randi Destefano to help us design the kitchen of our dreams. Randi incorporated our requirements into her vision of what our kitchen could become. She was insightful, responsive, and a true partner in the design process. The final product far exceeded our expectations and we would enthusiastically recommend Randi and Authentic Living Interiors on any design project!”
The homeowners love to entertain, but realized that their 1980’s kitchen was no longer working for them. Because the cooktop was in the peninsula, with no venting, work space was a bit crowded.
The refrigerator was located across the room and required too many extra steps to retrieve items for preparing the meals.
An added bonus to the design possibilities the homeowner being a cabinet maker. He wanted a kitchen that would showcase his work and feature all the bells and whistles his own clients might want. With this in mind, the design includes different types of cabinets as well as some unique interior accessories…perfect for Aging in Place.
Their goal was to eliminate the peninsula and add an island with seating. Another primary goal was to locate the refrigerator closer to the actual work area. To be able to include the island and have ample space between cabinets, the kitchen wall was pushed back to be flush with the breakfast area. Since this eliminated the door to the deck, we added a doorway across from the laundry room. The results were two-fold. First, more natural light now enters the laundry room and hallway. Second, the homeowners discovered a new gathering area was created on a portion of the deck that was never used before. It completely changed the dynamics of how their guests interacted during parties!
The island has now become the center of the kitchen, and a gathering space for family and friends.
